British composer Harvey was a student of Hans Keller and worked at IRCAM in the 1980s. In the first movement from Timepieces, high strings form a continuous thread under which angular, clock-like rhythms appear in piano, woodwinds, and orchestra, increasing in kinetic energy towards the end of the piece.
